blogging is so often about only sharing the good bits of your life and in many respects i don't think that's a bad thing as i'm all for focusing on the positive. however, i do think it is nice to give a little insight from time to time into the less than perfect part of our reality. like when i told you about our dilapidated house. so although i was tempted not to post pictures of sunday's cake this week, i decided why not? yes, it is sunken. yes it is a tad on the damp side. yes, most of the raspberries and chocolate chips sunk to the bottom. yes, it serves to illustrate the lesson i learnt this weekend: i'm really not so competent a baker that i can wing it, mess with a recipe and always come out with perfect results. but while this cake doesn't look especially pretty, it does taste good and that's what really matters after all.
glimpses of our weekend:
// 1. sunday's cake: looked so promising before it went in the oven
// 2. sunday's cake less than successful cake: sunken, squidgy and not very cakey.
// 3. husband can usually be found outside, building a garage on any given weekend.
// 4. i've said it before, but check out those eyelashes!
// 5. it seems Ava has developed a taste for stuffed animal
// 6. this little person leaves trails of strewn toys in her wake
Cake looks yummy to me! I like a bit of a squidgy cake. And you've inspired me to put a picture in my 'project life' of Lydia and I full of cold! Life isn't always perfect and that's fine, so we may as well document it as it is I guess. Becky x
ReplyDeletethat's great Becky and so true, life isn't always perfect and really, it shouldn't be!
DeleteThat cake still looks yummy. Dense cake is still yummy cake ;-) and I didn't eat breakfast so I would LOVE a large slice right now!
ReplyDeleteturns out that it is improved by being liberally covered in double cream...
Deletecome over, there's a small slice left! :)
Ok, your home looks and sounds lovely (not at all dilapidated. You should visit our homestead...talk about OLD! Although it was renovated 10 years ago (and nicely done) they say it was built in 1954, I think maybe some additions were put on but this had to have been a pure brick Colonial kitchen or something! Any-who, your cake looks delicious - I wouldn't have guessed it should looked any different! If it doesn't come from a box with 1 2 3 steps, I would burn it! <3
ReplyDeleteoh Momma Burd i think maybe i could win in the old house contest :-) ours was built in the 1930s. and much of it isn't lovely. it hasn't been redecorated since the late 80s/ early 90s (judging by the blue walls, ceiling and woodwork in the bathroom coupled with dapple paint effect waves and stencilled sea shells, oh yes). and i'm afraid it is rather worse for wear, i'm just good at hiding the worst of it in photos!
Deletei would love to visit your homestead, it sounds cool! i love old places as they have more character. even if they often come with a big to-do list!
